Man held in Newham over links to Islamic State

Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command – SO15 – have this morning arrested a 32-year-old man at an address in Newham in connection with terrorism offences.

He was arrested on suspicion of the collection of information which maybe useful to somebody who commits or prepares acts of terrorism contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He was also detained on suspicion of being a member or supporter of a proscribed organisation, namely Islamic State, contrary to section 11 and 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and the encouragement of terrorism contrary to section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

The arrest was made under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE). He has been taken into custody at a south London police station.
