Former pupils meet up to mark school’s 90th anniversary

Ex-pupils of a former Newham Grammar School are organising a reunion next month…to mark the school’s 90th anniversary.

Plaistow Grammar School in Prince Regent Lane closed in 1972. It is now the home of NewVic  sixth form colleage.

One of the pupils, Len Filtness, is organising the reunion  Saturday May 28 in Central London and is keen to hear from anyone wishing to attend.

Already many former pupils have signed up for the get together.

This is the fifth reunion in the last five years since one to mark 40 years since many left the school in 2012.badge

The  anniversary lunch and afternoon (and evening) meet up is confirmed at the Holiday Inn Bloomsbury, Coram Street, London WC1N 1HT on May 28. Arrive at 12 noon, lunch at 1pm.

The hotel is just two mins from Russell Square underground station. There is a fixed menu priced at £35 per person, including a complimentary glass of wine or juice on arrival (you pay for any other drinks). Special dietary requirements can be catered for.

The lunch is open to anyone who went to the school so Len wants people toplease pass the information to all old Plaistovians you are in contact with. Plus ones are welcome.

The cost of the meal needs to be paid for in advance.

You can contact Len through former Newham Recorder Editor Colin Grainger, who was a pupil at the school from 1965 to 1972.

“It should be any enjoyable event. Many of us have kept in touch for over 50 years and it will be good to meet up again and also see some new faces,” said Colin.

Email colingrainger@btinternet.com and Colin will pass on details to Len.

I remember a physics teacher named ‘Panting’ and a frightening sixth form teacher by the name of Dr Morris.
