Newham Heritage Week 2018: Full details

THE full details have been revealed of the special Newham Heritage week which kicks off very soon.

The key themes this year are Women’s Suffrage and the representation of the peoples act plus the Armistice  – both of which have centenaries this year.

Newham Heritage Week, organised by Newham Council in partnership with a range of other organisations, will run between Thursday 8 November – Sunday 18 November, writes Colin Grainger.

Exhibitions, heritage bus tour, films, walks, talks, children’s activities, open houses and more are available.

A launch event is being held on November 10 at The Gate Library in Forest Gate from 12 to 4pm.

The event is being co-ordinated by Newham Council and has the involvement of a huge number of local groups, organisations and individuals, including Heritage Newham People, Places, Progress

Newham Heritage Week Launch will give people the chance to immerse themselves in heritage activities and find out what will be happening during Newham Heritage Week 2018.

There will be a wealth of information and varied activities available for children and adults, including a children’s banner making workshop with the Museum of London, plus interactive activities and workshops with Salmagundi films,and a chance to purchase rare heritage titles from Newham Bookshop and more.

There are a number of other Newham anniversaries which will be recognised including Abbey Mills Pumping Station (150 years), Newham Book Shop (40 years), Eastside Community Heritage (20 years) and the Ronan Point disaster (50 years). Newham Council said the borough of has a rich history, and Newham Heritage Week offers the platform and opportunity for local heritage organisations to come together in celebration. Heritage Newham – People, Places, Progress is taking part in the 11-day event and is organising a number of events.

There will also be a Heritage Day end event taking place at the House Mill, on Sunday November 18,  from 12 to 3pm. Three Mills Island, Bromley-by-Bow, E3 3DU

People will be able to celebrate the end of Newham Heritage Week with many of the organisationsand individuals involved in making it happen. There will be activities and workshops for all ages, refreshments, exhibitions, information stalls, creative activities, tours of the House Mill and much more.
