The latest fund-raising event for the Community Links and Newham Recorder Christmas Toy Appeal was a resounding success last night.
The event, at Links’ headquarters in Barking Road, Canning Town, saw 16 teams battle it it out for the Maureen Allen trophy.
And there were familiar faces in the winning line-up as the Newham Blips, made up of Newham Council staff, were victorious yet again for the fifth successive year.
In third place at half time, the Blips showed their class by winning the trophy.
The trophy the teams were playing for is named after former Recorder editorial secretary Maureen Allen, who was a staunch supporter of the appeal and Links.
The event raised just over £1,800 towards the campaign, which is now hitting its most crucial stage.
The total for the evening received an additional £150 added on the night by former Recorder Editor Colin Grainger as a result of his annual 50-length sponsored swim.
Links co-founder and question master for the evening Kevin Jenkins thanked everyone for their support.
