North Woolwich pub is ‘set to re-open in the New Year’

The Henley Arms public house in North Woolwich will re-open in the New Year, pub business chiefs have revealed.

And the pub in Albert Road, which closed in the summer, due to a variety of factors, is to undergo a major modernisation once it is up and running again.

A spokesperson for Star Pubs & Bars said that the accommodation above the pub’s main area is currently being refurbished and should be completed by the end of the year. This followed a fire in the accommodation about the pub.

And then it will be the turn of the pub to undergo a refit.

The spokesperson said: “We would like to open The Henley Arms again as soon as possible, hopefully in January under temporary management whilst we find someone to take the pub on a long-term basis.”

Star Pubs & Bars is the business arm of Heineken UK.

She added: “Once a suitable licensee has been found we would look to invest significant funds on a major modernisation of the pub which will include fitting a commercial kitchen to allow food to be served.

“The area is crying out for a good traditional pub.  The Henley Arms has the potential to be a great business venture once it is refurbished as it has outdoor space, and lots of residents nearby.

Locals have already given an enthusiastic response to the possible redevelopment of the pub following a post on social media showing a picture of some work being carried out on the pub.

The spokeswoman added: “Anyone who wants to find out more about taking over The Henley should call our recruitment team on 08085 949596.  Details will also be available online at www.starpubs.co.uk in the next few weeks.”

Of course the pub re-opening date is subject to any restrictions being brought in by the Government because of COVID with fears that major rises in cases could see tougher restrictions.
