Tenpin bowlers strike out for Newham charity
Tenpin bowlers rolled plenty of strikes to support a special Newham charity in a night of fun and action at the City Pavilion in Collier Row.
Members of the Sunday Trios League who play at the centre, ended their season with a fund raising event for Canning Town’s Community Links.
The event raised just over £500 for the charity through a special handicap tournament of league bowlers and their families and friends in support of Links.
Allan Park won the men’s tournament, with Neil Emmons runner-up and Jamie Kingston third.
The women’s tournament was won by Rebecca Martin with Rachel Thacker second and Jane Kingston third. Top male game was rolled by Paul Mitchell and top women’s game by Kirsty Hall.
The event was staged by the league and the Friends of Community Links group.
League secretary Colin Grainger, who is also a founder member of the Friends group, said: “It was a great fun night and we would like to thank City Pavilion, in particular Natasha Kaur Virdee and a host of staff there for making it possible.”
The league has raised more than £4,000 in the last eight seasons for charities, but this was their highest fund raiser to date.
Life president of Community Links Kevin Jenkins said: “We would like to thank the bowlers and the centre for their support at this event.”
