Safer transport police officer’s surprise delivery!

A police officer helped deliver a baby in Newham yesterday.

Pc Robert Morgan was dealing with a vehicle, which had been stopped near a Mercedes Benz showroom in Rick Roberts Way in Stratford, when he was flagged down by the father at around 1pm.

The father was driving his partner, who was in labour, to hospital when he passed Pc Morgan. He pulled over and asked him for help as the baby was on its way.

The heavily pregnant woman got out of the car along with her son and sister. Pc Morgan acted quickly, calling for assistance and an ambulance, and was joined by Pc Christine Goode.

They, along with the woman’s sister, helped deliver the baby girl, who was born at 13:23hrs.

Both were taken to hospital.

Pc Morgan, a safer transport team officer in neighbouring Tower Hamlets, said: “We deal with all sorts of incidents, however I wasn’t expecting this today. The mother was not keen on my suggestion of calling the baby girl Mercedes!”
